Byron Bay may have a reputation for being a sleepy surfer town, but it’s also jam-packed with vegan-friendly cafés and a few organic grocery stores. The best part is that all of these food establishments are within a few blocks of one another. Take a short walk around town and you’re guaranteed to encounter some delicious food along with some business owners that are passionate about health, wellness and nourishing the body with nutrient-rich, plant-based food.
Here are a few of the highlights.
Naked Treaties Rawganics is 100% raw, organic, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free. Their food is fresh and unadulterated, hence the name “naked.” While a bit pricey, you’ll know that you’re consuming food that is extremely kind to your body. The floor to ceiling length juice and smoothie menu might seem a bit overwhelming, but just ask for a recommendation and you’ll quickly understand the passion and dedication behind the Naked Treaties team. You can find Naked Treaties raw bars and desserts throughout Australia in health food stores and cafés.
The gluten-free bircher muesli with goji berries, coconut cream and berry purée was a perfect way to kick-off the morning.

Heart and Halo, an entirely vegetarian restaurant, is located on a quiet side-street away from the hustle and bustle of Byron Bay’s town center. Pick a few hot and cold dishes from the case, pile them high, and grab a table on the shaded patio.
Make sure to save room for the Halva Coconut Cream Pudding for dessert.
Also, come back for breakfast. The Mooridge has the perfect sweetness from the stewed figs, dates, apricots and black currants, but it also has a rich nuttiness from the combination of the quinoa, millet and pumpkin seeds. The coconut cream on top ties all the elements together perfectly.

Manna Haven is a light-filled vegetarian café on Byron Bay’s Jonson’s Street. Grab a seat by the window or snag a table outside on the front porch. The food is carefully crafted and beautifully presented, and while there might be a bit of a wait during the peak hours, hang tight. The wait is well worth it.
The walnut, brown rice and shredded veggie patties below were excellent! I could have had this meal everyday for an entire week and I would still want to come back for more.
