Nishta, an entirely vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Dubrovnik’s old town is a perfect go-to option for a healthy, affordable meal. The service is top notch and the menu is full of interesting vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes. I just wished that we had a few more days in Dubrovnik to enjoy Nishta’s many fantastic looking dishes.
The menu has an international vibe: sweet potato spaghetti carbonara, raw gnocchi made from nuts, falafel, Vietnamese pho, tempeh taquitos, seitan satay, and a mixed Indian plate. There is also a fantastic salad bar loaded with delicious veggie and grain-based salads that are prepared fresh daily.
These red lentil pancakes were stuffed with curried potatoes and veggies, and served alongside fresh chutney and mint sauce. Nishta even had take-away cards with the recipe for the red lentil pancakes. They suggest topping them with apples roasted in cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Sweet or savory, whatever your preference may be!
My husband thoroughly enjoy the “tofu lettuce” appetizer below. It consisted of tofu and cashew nuts scrambled with lemon grass and galangal, then wrapped in lettuce leaves.
Even though we were beyond satisfied from our salads and appetizers, we couldn’t resist trying something for dessert. We opted for the Cappuccino rice pudding served alongside a carob praline truffle. The rice pudding was light and not too sweet, balancing perfect with the bitter carob praline truffle.
We returned to Nishta for dinner that same day and enjoyed the vegan tempeh taquitos and the bulgur burger (pictured below) served with a fresh chutney in a warm pita along with sweet potato “fries.” Both dishes were excellent!
Be sure to make a reservation for dinner as tables fill up very quickly, especially if you want a table outside during the summer months. Also, if you’re headed to Zhagreb as well, you’ll find Nishta’s second location in Zaghreb’s city center.
